I guess the local citizens will continue to wait for an sad story line that they deserve a answers and is its taken to long to get some results from the top of the chain of decisions command to restore the natives Hawaiians people property back together without any delays and political issues! I hope that they do not build so close to this tree again. Last time I was there I was really disappointed at the over abundance of building that detracted from its natural beauty. A simple Lahaina was much more appealing to me and I know the native Hawaiians would agree as I have spoken to several when I have visited. It’s coming back to life nicely.

I recently found out that any money received from FEMA and any money received from disaster groups you have to claim these moneys on your taxes. So can you imagine having your tax base increase and having to pay taxes on those moneys when everything you have is gone and financially due to the devastation you’re on the brink of bankruptcy??? This is so wrong and our Representatives and Senators need to pass legislation to protect those that are in a disaster area.

I shocked to see that the Old Historic steam locomotives at the Pioneer Mill and by where the Lahaina Station used to be, are still intact. It's also neat to see the structure for the turntable. The working steam engines Anaka and Myrtle were safe tucked away in their round house up in Kaanapali. It's also shocking to see that the Maria Lanakila Catholic Church COMPLETELY untouched from the fire!!! So there are still a couple historic treasures still standing. :) Clean up looks like it's coming along nicely, and I'm sure Lahaina will be restored to her former glory.

Millions for a house with no parking

We took a drive to Lahaina last month still hard to take in everything that happened. Please pray for all the families that suffered.

Residents should have free housing until their home is built. Government does that for the illegals

Looks like fire surrounded your neighborhood but never touched it. Everyone else was torched. How is this explained? Also, what is the current info on missing kids. And don't say they died in the fire.

How many locals could possibly afford to rebuild?

Was wreckage, evidence dumped into the ocean?

My kids were there the day before the fire and got caught up in the madness that ensued. Our hearts have broken for the loss of life and loss of such a beautiful town. I wear my ring today bought on Front Street a year before the fire. Our thoughts continue to be with the community.

I’m from the Azores islands. It’s like the Hawaii of Europe. It’s so green and humid there, because there islands like Hawaii. I just want to know how green vegetation burn like that. Have you ever tried to burn wet green wood? Come on! This was deliberate. I feel so awful for the Hawaiians. This property I believe is being stolen from them

My Native American grandparent's thousands of acres were stolen by European settlers, so I feel the Hawaiian's pain for their loss. We have never received free anything, reduced rents, government assistance. Now, I am supposed to carry on my back the Maui fire victims? What happened to them is not my fault! So as a STVR owner why am I being the villain and possibly going to lose my property again (STVR). Too many people want everyone else to take care of them. I worked three jobs when I was young with not time to surf, dig my toes in the sand, drink, smoke and watch the waves roll in an out. I worked very hard for what I have. My investment didn't just fall out of the sky for free. I bought property because I knew rents would keep going up and up. I thought I made good choices but maybe not. I should go on welfare and get free food and rent.

I think it is slow going and you can clearly that the trees were untouched by the so called wild fires. Why were the homes destroyed and yet brush surrounding them were fine? I still question these fires.

When I visited Lahiana 3 months prior to the fire storm, I was shocked back then at the lack of roads to safely exit citizens from the area. It's imperative future returning residents plan for, more roads to safely exit, boats or egress via the ocean? Consideration of safety for neighborhoods & water distribution for fire fighting, as well, as warning sirens for emergencies like fire & cyclones too. City Managers please make a plan to care for your citizens. I am so thrilled to see progress & pray that all residents eventually are able to return home.

My uncle Ed used to manage Willie K (RIP) for a majority of his career and I remember when I was a young man going to Willie's and his brother's house a little down on the left for New years and Xmas. That particular beach gave me much closure to my mother's passing. Sorry for the novel but I randomly stumbled on this short and struck up memories

Jesse this is the first video I have seen of yours. I have been intentionally avoiding looking at Lahaina because it has been too hard since the fire. Then the losses over the last week, Wily and Perry, I was checking on what people were saying and your video came up to check out and I am glad I did. It is encouraging and seems like the residents are being protected from developers so far, but with so much cleared you get a new perspective and especially with your video covering all of the area at once from the air, instead of still pictures in different news posts, it shows how wide spread it really was and it hurts even more, I don't think the grief will ever leave me completely. It is easy for me to put myself in other peoples places when things happen and the enormity of the event, just far and wide how trapped everyone was, in every direction, hits even harder now. You also realize exactly how much is gone and I could not help but cry again over it. Personally Lahaina, especially old town meant a lot to me and we got lucky out of the distant relatives that were missing we actually only lost one, so we faired better than many, but these are people I had not known were there, but I still feel the loss, because regardless we are family. I already had a deep connection to Hawaii and to Lahaina long before I knew I actually had family and ancestors, all over the islands, haole and Hawaiian, and I haven't been able to get back since I found out. I do want to thank you for your video and yes I am interested in how things are going, I am concerned that everyone is treated fairly and get the help they deserve. A rebuild of old town, my heart is not in that, because it just would not be old town and basically because so many died there, it doesn't seem right, but it would be to continue and reestablish livelihoods, for residents, to bring the tourists in and teach them some history, if they care at all about that, which they don't much anymore, even their own. I just don't know, I would have a hard time building where people died and became ashes basically part of the land, it is all sacred right now. How is everyone there feeling about it because the spiritual side is so important to the people? I will be checking for more videos now because it does show some hope for the residents, and maybe it will help me let go of some of the grief. Thank you.

Lovely video. Thank you. So very sad. Sadly I doubt the old charm can ever exist again. New buildings are never as charming as old ones. I fear that what Lahaina will become will require billions to be invested, which mean big time investor money. It will look like Wailea. And be available to the wealthy for their second and third homes and condos. Shopping centers that could be anyplace. I remember the times we spent at Kimo's and the general ambience of the town a few years ago. Rebuilding is so hard. So much infrastructure destroyed. Godspeed to you!

Who is investigating the missing school children? Why aren’t people asking? Saw pictures after the fire and it appeared that the parking lot full of school buses was empty. Devastating yet no one can ask/talk about it?

Thanks for the update. I’d like to see a video where you fly over the landfill where all of this debris is going and learn a bit about how they are containing hazardous waste from the fire.

My daughter, Joy, survived the fire, along with her dog ,Bacon. Unfortunately, her 79 year old blind father in law did not. Joy is telling me that l belive "Island Insurance" is now considering SUING the people who had their insurance! Is that true? I keep thinking she gas misheard this. On what grounds could their insuries (sp?) be held liable? The aftermath of the fire seems to be taking close to as much stress to the people as the original fire!
